Description: Experience this park known for its sheer bluffs, narrow ridges, rolling water, and abundant mixed forest. The area is on the National Register of Historic Places. There once was a gristmill, sawmill and powerhouse on this site. The park is home to over 300 species of trees and plants and an abundance of wildlife, including the white-faced grey squirrel. Visitors can enjoy the large Native Butterfly Garden, fish and hike the 1.5-mile round-trip loop to see four waterfalls on the Falling Water River, the tallest being 136 feet.

Description: Experience Cookeville’s largest park and the “Finest Municipal Park in the Upper Cumberland.” This 262-acre regional park contains three picnic shelters, play equipment, a 50-acre lake, two fishing piers, a concession stand, walking trails, a basketball court, volleyball court and an 18-hole disc golf course. Paddleboats, canoes and fishing boats can be rented at the concession stand April through September.

Description: Trek this hiker’s heaven encompassing a 1,157-acre natural area within the greater Scott’s Gulf region. It is adjacent to the Bridgestone/Firestone Centennial Wilderness Area. Hike through caves, observe unique geological features, and overlook numerous waterfalls. Be awestruck by the mystical Virgin Falls that drops over a 110-foot cliff. The eight-mile round-trip trail is rated difficult. Allow six to eight hours for hiking and sightseeing. Primitive camping is available.

Description: Boats are not allowed below the dam and fishing boats are allowed only in the shallow lake above the dam at Burgess Falls. Due to heavy silting and lack of a boat ramp this is not a desirable lake for boating. Trolling motors are the only type of motor allowed on boats.

Description: Standing Stone State Park covers nearly 11,000 acres on the Cumberland Plateau of north-central Tennessee. The quaint and rustic park is noted for its outstanding scenery, spring wildflowers, fossils and other natural diversity. The park takes its name from the Standing Stone, an eight-foot tall rock standing upright on a sandstone ledge, which was supposedly used as a boundary line between two separate Indian nations. When the rock fell, the Indians placed a portion of it upon an improvised monument to preserve it. The stone is still preserved in Monterey, Tennessee.
